Fandom Snowflake Challenge #2
Jan. 3rd, 2024 12:47 pmIn your own space, set yourself some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I was going to try to post this to my personal journal/diary as well [@honeytree], but Dreamwidth doesn't want to cross-post to another Dreamwidth account, so maybe I'll just copy-and-paste this. My goals this year aren't really fannish, but I think there are some that are always in the back of my head. I always want to make new friends in the community, and I always want to have a sense of community. I think I feel that the most when I'm in RPGs here on Dreamwidth, because everyone is working together and building a story together and hanging out, and you really get to become friends with everyone. Outside of DWRP, I don't really have much in the way of fannish friendships (which is fine! but, you know, more friends is always good!)
I think communication could help, since I tend to meet a lot of cool people out at conventions, or at game stores, or just out in about in life, but I rarely take the time to keep in contact with them and really become friends.
Okay, but here's a list:

Okay, but here's a list:
- More spoken word events.
- I did one last year, and it was awful, and I was so nervous that I thought I was going to die. But, I want to do more and tell more stories!
- More improv events.
- I did a LOT of those last year with my friends, and they were crazy, and chaotic, and so fun! With my new work schedule, it's going to be hard, but I want to try to see if they'll have any weekend events, maybe?
- More tabletop card game events.
- My friend and I went to our first Flesh and Blood event last Saturday and we had a really good time, even though we totally got our shit rocked and died immediately. These events are on Saturdays, and MTG events are on Sundays, so these are things that I know that I can make it out to with my schedule, and we're planning to go again this weekend!
- More concerts, and art galleries, and events.
- I did a lot of this when I was younger (LOL), and before COVID. Shows are starting up again, but I haven't been feeling like going out to them. But I should!
- Apply for jobs in my field.
- Ugh, this is the scariest one. I have a whole degree that I'm too afraid to use because I've let propaganda get into my head. I've wanted to be a journalist for so long, but I spent my teens and my early twenties hearing nothing but 'fake news' and 'you can't trust the media' and it really crushed my resolve. I have so much passion for writing and helping the world, but my anxiety makes me want to hide under a blanket forever. I think part of 2024 for me is going to be getting over that, whatever that looks like for me.
- More outdoor time.
- Everyone says more exercise, but I really do miss hiking around just for fun. Making a plan to just go into the woods for no reason besides just wanting to stomp around the woods.
